Right HereRight HereA voice and a choice for our mental health

Why we need Right Here?

The last few decades have seen a rise in depression and anxiety amongst teenagers, and it is estimated that 1 in 12 young people deliberately self-harm; behaviour symptomatic of mental distress.

Mental health services, designed to help those in crisis, are overwhelmed because not enough preventative work is being done to support the mental health of all young people aged 16 to 25.

The transition to adulthood is always a difficult stage and is a time when the most common mental health problems first surface. As young people leave school, begin looking for work, or enter the workplace or their first serious relationship, they may experience a lot of stress and pressure which can test their resilience.

"My experience of working with other young people and of my friends and family have shown me that there clearly is a huge gap in the curriculum when it comes to mental health issues, and that in many cases not enough support is available, or if it is, it is directed at adults. The Right Here project is a great opportunity to help change this, reduce stigma and encourage young people to seek help that it suited to them!"
